Delta News and Information

Thursday, October 9th

1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Delta/Summit Leading Ladies began their service learning by volunteering their time cooking a meal and serving the homeless at a soup kitchen. It is located in the basement of St. Pius Catholic Church in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago. They learned that at the soup kitchen, all food is donated and it is up to the staff to make meals out of what they have. The Ladies did a very nice job displaying leadership and compassion. In the Leading Ladies meeting prior to the field trip, we discussed the topic of homelessness and began to explore some of the possible root causes to be more understanding when faced with this population.

St. Baldrick's Event

Summit and Delta had another successful St. Baldricks Event raising over $3,000 dollars, and bringing the school total to over $30,000 in the past 6 years.  The staff and students theme this year was Summit and Delta Crush kid’s cancer, and the staff and students worked hard to do just that.  They teamed up with Chipotle in Crestwood to fundraise for the cause, held multiple raffles, and duck-taped Dean Bacino to the wall all to help raise money for childhood cancer research.

Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy is an organization that works with trained, registered therapy dogs to help people to improve their health and quality of life. The programs are goal-oriented and build on the unique bond between dogs and humans to meet specific goals.  Our students work with the therapy dogs to help train them to perform certain tasks while building on student social and intellectual skills, self-esteem and self-control
